Newcastle Benfield v Sunderland Rca

Newcastle Benfield v Sunderland RCA
Match Preview

Newcastle Benfield play the first of two successive midweek home fixtures this coming Wednesday as Sunderland RCA provide the opposition.

Although there is no shame in losing to the champions elect, Stuart Elliott and his team will be looking for a reaction after Saturdays disappointing result at Stockton Town.

Sunderland RCA have been one of the most consistent clubs over the last few years and therefore there will be disappointment within Sunderland LGV Park as to how this season has went, with our visitors currently sitting one place and three points behind the Lions. Benfield have the much better goal difference (+1 versus -9) and have scored one more goal.

On the road this season, RCA have played 12 times in the league, winning 4, drawing 2 and losing 6. The 12 games have produced 15 RCA goals with 22 conceded. The 4 victories have come against Guisborough Town (2-1), Northallerton Town (2-1), Thornaby (2-1) and North Shields (3-1), with the 2 draws coming against Seaham Red Star (2-2) and local neighbours Ryhope CW (1-1). The 6 defeats have been against Consett (1-3), Hebburn Town (0-3), Bishop Auckland (1-2), Stockton Town (0-2), Shildon (0-2) and Whickham (1-3).

The reverse fixture back in August was edged by RCA 3-2 as Benfield came from behind twice before a late Mark Davison effort sealed maximum points for the Wearside outfit.

The management team should have Peter Glen-Ravenhill who was unavailable on Saturday at their disposal once again. It did not appear there were any significant injuries after the defeat, however, the management team may still look to shuffle the pack as they seek a confidence boosting victory.

Martin Swailes teams are always strong and defensively well organised, therefore Benfield will have to be disciplined and patient as they seek maximum points.

Look out for our match-day programme and golden goal ticket sellers as you enter the ground.

On Saturday it is another long trip as the lads head to Guisborough Town (3pm) before Newton Aycliffe come to Sam Smith’s Park for a rearranged league fixture next Wednesday evening (26th February).
