Newcastle Benfield v Hebburn Town Match Preview

Newcastle Benfield v Hebburn Town
Match Preview

Hebburn Town make the short journey across the Tyne this Saturday (3pm), as both sides play their final game before Christmas.

Newcastle Benfield were left without a midweek fixture after our league cup tie at Brandon United was postponed yet again. Hebburn Town were also without a midweek game and therefore it was last Saturday when both teams were most recently in action.

The Hornets have been on a little losing run recently having lost four Northern League games in a row, however, Kevin Bolam and his squad will be happy that this run was ended with victory over Bishop Auckland last Saturday. The recent run of form resulted in some excellent additions as the men from South Tyneside looked to stop the slide. Recent signings include Michael McKeown and Tom Potter from Morpeth Town, together with goalkeeper Mark Fodden from Blyth Spartans. With the new blood complimenting significant talent already in the squad, including Louis Storey, Luke Sullivan and Michael Richardson, this will be a stern test for Stu Elliott and the lads.

Hebburn sit 3rd in the table on 42 points (22 played) and have been on their league travels 9 times in 2019-20, winning 5, drawing 2 and losing 2. The 5 victories have come at Billingham Town (5-2), Bishop Auckland (2-1), North Shields (5-1), Whitley Bay (5-4) and Whickham (3-2) with the 2 draws coming at Sunderland RCA (2-2) and Consett (4-4) and the 2 defeats coming at Stockton Town (3-1) and Shildon (4-0). With a total of 50 goals in 9 away league games played, entertainment should be guaranteed.
