Cup Fixture

Brandon United v Newcastle Benfield
Wednesday 18th December 2019 (19.45 ko)

Newcastle Benfield and Brandon United will look to finally complete their group fixtures in this seasons Northern League Cup this coming Wednesday as the Lions head to the Welfare Ground.

This will be the third attempt to complete this particular fixture after floodlight damage and a waterlogged pitch thwarted previous attempts.

Brandon United currently sit bottom of the Ebac Northern League second division with 6 points from their first 15 games. In group D of the league cup our hosts can no longer qualify for the next stage, however Benfield must collect at least a point to progress to the knockout stages in 2020.

In their 3 league cup games to date, Brandon have lost to Consett (0-5 home) Bedlington Terriers (1-4 away) and Thornaby (1-6 away). With the pressure off Brandon now that qualification can no longer be secured, Stu Elliott and his management team will have to ensure the lads are focused as we look for a positive result to guarantee progression.

After losing our first game in the group at Consett (1-3), home victories were secured against Thornaby (3-1) and Bedlington Terriers (2-1) to leave the lions sitting level on 6 points with Thornaby, who have now completed their fixtures.

Although cold, the forecast does not look too bad for the next couple of days, however, please keep a check on social media for any pitch inspection news, to avoid a wasted journey.

The next date for your diary after Wednesday will be this coming Saturday (21st December) when Hebburn Town come to Walkergate with league points up for grabs (15.00 ko).
