Newcastle Benfield v Sunderland RCA

Newcastle Benfield v Sunderland RCA
Ebac Northern League Division One
Saturday 23rd November 2019

Sunderland RCA make the trip to Sam Smith’s Park tomorrow (Saturday) as Newcastle Benfield have an immediate opportunity to forget about the unfortunate midweek defeat to Stockton Town.

With the Buildbase FA Vase trip to Vauxhall Motors now only a week away, Stu Elliott and his coaching staff will be looking for a positive result to set up the trip to Cheshire next weekend.

Matches between ourselves and our Wearside rivals are normally close affairs, as evidenced by RCA’s narrow victory in the reverse fixture back in August.

Martin Swailes always has his teams well organised and has done a fine job whilst in the RCA hot seat. Based on previous seasons however, there will be slight disappointment at this seasons current league position of 12th but there is a long way to go.

RCA have had a mixed bag of results on the road this season with 3 victories, 1 draw and 3 defeats from their 7 games played. The victories have all been by 2-1 margins and have come at Guisborough Town, Northallerton Town and Thornaby. The Thornaby result was RCA’s last league victory on the road and this was at the start of September. The sole draw was at Seaham Red Star (2-2) with the defeats coming at Consett (3-1), Hebburn Town (3-0) and Bishop Auckland (2-1).

With Newcastle not playing until Monday, it would be good to have a decent crowd for this Tyne and Wear derby.

Don’t forget to pick up your programme (£1) and golden goal tickets (£1).

Next in the diary is our Christmas under the Stalls event on Sunday (11am – 4pm) – it would be great if you could pop along to support this excellent community driven event here at Sam Smiths Park.
