Shildon v Newcastle Benfield Northern League Division 1

Shildon v Newcastle Benfield
Ebac Northern League Division One
Saturday 16th November 2019
Dean Street – 3pm

Newcastle Benfield head to Shildon on Saturday as the Lions look to put recent weather frustrations behind them.

Since the excellent Buildbase FA Vase victory against Guisborough Town, fixtures against Brandon United and Newton Aycliffe have been lost to the elements. Shildon did play last weekend and will be pleased they did having collected maximum points at Ashington.

The Dean Street men are having a positive league season under the leadership of former player Daniel Moore but all associated with the Railwaymen will be hugely disappointed with the recent Vase exit at Lower Breck.

In the league, Shildon have won 4 of their 6 home fixtures, with maximum points secured against Thornaby, Ryhope CW, Penrith and Northallerton Town. Seaham Red Star collected a point with Consett collecting all 3 points, these two fixtures being the most recent at home and therefore Shildon are without a home league win since September. This statistic is probably a little harsh given our hosts have won 7 times since that September victory over Northallerton Town in a combination of different cup competitions and away fixtures.

With Shildon currently sitting 6th in the table and with 20 goals scored in the first 6 home league fixtures, it will certainly be a very tough test for the Lions but with our own goal threats, an entertaining contest should be on the cards.

After our enforced break, the management team will hope that any niggles which were being carried have now fully cleared. After Saturday, the next date for your diary will be Wednesday 20th November when Stockton Town head to Sam Smith’s Park for a home league fixture.

Before setting off for Shildon, please keep a check on social media for any pitch inspections or other news regarding the match – it does appear rain could play a part yet again.
